On his second visit to the country, Pope John Paul II offered a mass on the grounds of the Historical Monument of World Football. It was on May 7, 1988, and then he continued his trip through the cities of Florida, Salto and Melo.

Saturday, May 7, 1988, Pope Juan Pablo II arrived in Uruguay on what would be his second visit. From the Carrasco International Airport he went directly to the Centenario Stadium, where he was received by a crowd of people
