Uruguay Wins the 1930 World Cup

The tournament featured 13 teams: Uruguay (the host), Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico, the United States, and European teams France, Yugoslavia, Romania, and Belgium.
The final was played on Wednesday, July 30, at 2 PM. Uruguay took the lead just 12 minutes into the match with a goal from Pablo Dorado. However, Argentina quickly turned the game around with goals from Carlos Peucelle in the 20th minute and Guillermo Stábile in the 37th minute.
Uruguay fought back in the second half, with Pedro Cea equalizing in the 57th minute. Santos Iriarte then scored in the 68th minute to put Uruguay ahead again. Héctor "Manco" Castro sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the 89th minute, making the final score 4-2.
Uruguay's triumph established them as a dominant football power of the time.
Uruguay, known as "La Celeste," won the first World Cup by defeating Argentina in the final, held at the Estadio Centenario.
